Prose is built on a simple principle: your text is yours. We don't store it, we don't log it, and we don't use it for anything.

Overview

Prose is a Chrome extension that fixes your text directly where you type. It is designed to be invisible: no account required to start, no data collected by default, no background activity.

The short version: Prose never sees your text. It goes from your browser directly to the AI model you chose. That's it.

This policy explains what little data Prose does handle, and why.

Data collected

Prose collects almost nothing. Here is the full list:

  • Your email address, only if you sign in to use Prose credits. Used solely for authentication via PIN code.
  • Credit balance, the number of credits remaining in your account, stored server-side to process fix requests.
  • Extension settings, your chosen AI provider, model preference, and active mode. Stored locally in your browser using chrome.storage.local.

We do not collect: your name, your location, your browsing history, or any text you fix.

How your text is used

When you select text and choose "Fix my text," that text is sent directly to the AI model. Here is what happens:

  • Your text travels from your browser to the AI provider (OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google).
  • The fixed version is returned to your browser.
  • Prose never receives, intercepts, stores, or logs any part of your text.
Using your own API key? Your text goes directly to your provider account. Prose is not in the loop at any point.

Text is not used to train models, is not retained after the fix is complete, and is not visible to the Prose team under any circumstances.

API keys

If you bring your own API key, it is stored exclusively in chrome.storage.local, a sandboxed environment accessible only to Prose. No other extension can read it. Your key is never sent to Prose servers.

  • Keys are transmitted directly to your chosen AI provider (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google).
  • Prose applies a strict Content Security Policy (CSP) to prevent injection attacks.
  • We recommend setting hard usage caps in your provider dashboard as a best practice.

Credits & billing

If you purchase Prose credits, we collect your email address to create and manage your account. Payments are processed by our payment provider. We do not store your card details.

We retain your email address and credit balance for as long as your account is active. You can request deletion at any time by contacting us.

Third parties

Prose interacts with the following third parties depending on your setup:

  • OpenAI, if you use an OpenAI key or Prose credits with GPT models.
  • Anthropic, if you use a Claude API key.
  • Google, if you use a Gemini API key.
  • Payment processor, for credit purchases only.

Each provider has its own privacy policy governing how they handle API requests. We recommend reviewing them if you have concerns.
